Samsung leads Apple

Samsung has reportedly shipped a record 88.4 million smartphones for Q3, over two times more than those shipped by Apple.

Samsung has topped all other phone makers with a whopping 35 percent share of the global shipment market for the third quarter, Cnet reports.

A Strategy Analytics study revealed that global smartphone shipments have reached an all-time high for Q3, shipping more than 250 million in a single quarter, reporting a 45 percent increase over last year.

Strategy Analytics executive director Neil Mawston said there has been a big demand for the new Note 3 phablet and for mass-market devices, like the Galaxy Y, which helped to lift Samsung's volumes for Q3, despite softening demands of the flagship Galaxy S4 model.

Apple took the second spot in global shipments as it grew by 26 percent and shipped 33.8 million iPhones in the same period, the report added. According to the report, Huawei, LG, and Lenovo were placed at third, fourth, and fifth positions, respectively.
